The Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) is hosting their annual food drive for the Mid-South Food Bank on Tuesday, November 19th.
The event will be held at 514 South Main Street at 6 PM. Bring a cash donation, or canned goods.
This event would be great for those interested in working downtown, or getting more involved in the downtown community. There are many important community leaders who are a part of this organization, and this intimate gathering would be a great place to meet them.

For those who love wine, there is a wine event coming up next week. Joy to the Wine is just $35 and benefits Porter-Leath. It will be held on Wednesday, November 13th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM at the Botanic Garden.
Despite this event being somewhat social in nature, it’s still a great opportunity to get out and meet new professionals. Additionally, tickets to many fundraisers are more than $100, so at $35, this one is a great deal.
If you are not familiar with Porter-Leath, here’s a little more information about what they do:
For over 160 years, Porter-Leath has been the primary resource for Memphis’ at-risk children and families. By focusing on the essential building blocks of healthy development, we not only give them access to the tools they need, but also a sense of hope. The result is Porter-Leath helps build stronger children, stronger families and a stronger Memphis.
It will be fun networking for a great cause. To learn more, visit their website here.

In Memphis, networking can come in many forms. I’m trying to post a variety of events, so you can pick the ones that match to your personal and career interests. On Friday, Broad Avenue is hosting their Fall Art Walk.
There will be five blocks full of music, dance, and art exhibits by over 40 local artists. The event is this Friday, November 8th from 5-10 PM and best of all, its free.
This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the art scene in Memphis, and make new friends.

The New Memphis Institute puts on an awesome program about the history of Memphis that you should check out if you haven’t. It’s called Memphis 101 and is described as “an interactive crash course in Memphis culture, people and politics revealing why Memphis is the place it is today and how our history impacts where we are headed.”
I have personally been to Memphis 101 and really enjoyed it. Whether you’re an executive, or a college student, you should consider checking it out. You’ll learn something new about the city, and chances are that you will meet a few new people too. Just don’t forget your business cards!
Below is more information. To RSVP, visit the event’s EventBrite.com page here.

There’s a great networking opportunity that I highly recommend: Ignite. Ignite is a program that’s held in cities around the world. It allows locals to talk about something they’re passionate about – in a short time (~5 minutes or less). There is typically a networking event before and after the performance, so it’s a great opportunity to network, learn something new, and be entertained.
The event is scheduled for November 19th at Crosstown Arts. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 later. I’ve included additional details below. To get more information, or to purchase your tickets, visit their website here.
Ignite Memphis, Vol. 6
Enlighten us, but make it quick.
Your favorite night of enlightenment, entertainment, and beer is back. 12 presenters will have 5 minutes, 20 slides, and a lot to say. With topics as varied as the slides are creative, you’re guaranteed to learn (and laugh) more in two hours than you have all week.
And you thought slide shows were boring.
Undercurrent, along with Start Co., New Memphis Institute, and Orion Federal Credit Union, are thrilled to present Ignite Memphis, Vol. 6 on November 19, 2013 at Crosstown Arts.
Early Bird tickets are only $10 through October 31, then $15 through the night of the event. Doors open at 7:00 and the show starts promptly at 7:30.
Admission includes beer, wine, food, and all the enlightenment you can handle.
