The is an excellent opportunity to meet downtown residents who are active in the community.

Tonight, the Memphis Veterinary Specialists are hosting their Walkin’ & Woofin Night at the Orion Starry Nights.
Orion Starry Nights is closed to cars so that visitors can run, walk or ride a bike through the lights each Monday, but this is the only night to walk your pup through the lights. Join us for a fun-filled evening, complete with treats for your dog!
The cost is just $5 per person or $20 per family. This would be a great opportunity to get some exercise and meet new people.

On Monday, December 16th, MEMpy is hosting their meeting from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.
MEMpy is a group that wants to promote the use of the Python programming language in the Mid-South. Their primary purpose is to share knowledge and nurture a community of Python professionals and enthusiasts.
Each meeting is open to the public and aims to provide useful content for both novices and professionals.

The Brooks Museum will be hosting Winterfest on Sunday, December 15th.
At Brooks Winterfest, you will be greeted on the museum plaza with interactive performances by Mancontrol and Lil’ Elv-Eye, food trucks and horse-pulled carriages. Inside the museum, enjoy hands-on art-making activities, gallery guides themed for winter, tales told by Memphis Public Library, and a screening of Jim Henson’s Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas!
Create ornaments inspired by the Brooks’ permanent collection; make one to take home, and one to decorate the Brooks’ tree. Modern art and gingerbread house workshops are available with advanced registration and fee. Brooks members can decorate a doughnut “wreath” in the studios.
Admission is free. Horse-drawn carriages are $15 per ride.

Literacy Mid-South is hosting a book sale TONIGHT at the Germantown Community Theatre.
This is an art event for book lovers. Local artists were given the task of creating an artistic representation of their favorite book, and the art will be on display and for sale at the event. 75% of the sales directly benefit the programs of Literacy Mid-South.
In addition, the annual Book Sale Preview Party will be held simultaneously with the Art of Reading. More than 3,500 books will be for sale, and attendees will have first choice on brand new hardcover and paperback books for $5 and under.
Admission includes an open bar, hors d’oeuvres, and several surprise presentations. Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door.

Memphis Heritage is excited to present a new and lesser known selection of Don Newman photographs at Crosstown Arts.
Newman “2” will be on display at Crosstown’s 422 Gallery. The opening will be this Friday, December 13th from 6-8PM. This show will present nine large photographs produced as 48″X60″ prints.
